Since, despite lusting for one or more of the knives, I didn’t feel quite rich enough on the day in question, I bought a set of these boards. They turned out to be simply brilliant: 3 boards, each the perfect size and a joy to cut on. They beat both wood and awful plastic because they can be cut on like wood yet go in the dishwasher like plastic. The surface of the boards is also super easy to maintain: a serious hard scrub from time to time with the ubiquitous green scratchy thing sees to that.

Last July I ordered a knife and a magnetic sheath as an engagement gift for my daughter and her boyfriend. Needless to say they were delighted with it, and at Christmas my wife decided to buy them a matching steel. Much to my surprise she also bought a second steel for me…. I suspect she was fed up with my grumbling about knives not holding their edge. I have to say I am blown away by the quality of the steel and the results it produces on my existing knives, and I said that I would at some point get myself a matching knife. I’ve got a birthday coming up, and rather than buy me stuff I don’t need, I’ve been told that a matching knife has been ordered, which I’m chuffed to bits about.

I received my knife last weekend. Firstly, love the engraving, my logo looks fabulous! The overall appearance of the knife is beautiful. When I first tried it I’ll admit that I didn’t feel that it was a step up in how sharp it was, then my partner pointed out that all my kitchen knives are like, “F$%king razor blades” so maybe I was being unfair. I did however use it in anger on Sunday and have pretty much deferred to using it for everything now. Look I’m not a pro chef but I love using equipment that just works and this knife is so lovely. Balance and manoeuvrability are just sublime, I own Japanese and European knives and nothing I have feels like the Savernake, it’s hard to explain. I really did wonder if it would be £350 good and it has totally surpassed my expectations. I love it. Once lockdown is over I’d love to head over your way and get two or three fully custom knives done. I have some ideas based on my favourite knives. For now though, thanks for a stunning knife, I do truly love it.

I just wanted to let you know that I got the knife yesterday afternoon and thank you for the effort, it looks and feels fantastics. So much so, I changed our shopping list for more recipes with more knife work just to use it!
